Horizontal puzzle systems offer a high density and efficient vehicle handling capability in an automated parking system. A typical system will utilize around 95% of the available parking space. In a multiple floor garage, a set of pallets cover a concrete floor or steel frame.
Rollers driven by belts located underneath the pallets glide them along the x and y plane. Whole rows or columns of parked vehicles can move together simultaneously in order to maneuver vehicles to their destination, such as to vehicle transfer cabins, lifts, etc.
Horizontal puzzle systems also provide flexible layout options as the system can be configured to avoid building obstacles. A vehicle platform is maneuverable in all 4 directions on the system’s support frames, and can be transferred from one frame to another. This allows the system to be built around many challenging building shapes.
Scissor lifts are the favored style used in horizontal puzzle systems as they allow the platforms to be loaded from all four sides.
Cantilever lifts can also be used however the loading directions are not as flexible. 4 post lifts are also useful in the design for spanning many floors.
Vehicle rotation for the driver can be accomplished in the transfer cabin, on a lift, or in designated areas with available room in the parking system.
